Palestine Exploration Fund Annual Series re-launched

The Palestine Exploration Fund (PEF) and Maney Publishing have re-launched the illustrious PEF Annual book series after a gap of 53 years, with the publication of two volumes in December 2007.

The official re-launch will take place at The British Museum, London, on Thursday 13 December at 6.00 p.m. with a lecture in the Stevenson Lecture Theatre, followed by a wine reception. Interested parties are welcome to attend.

First published in 1911, the series has been re-launched in order to provide a vehicle for more extended studies. The new titles are The Hellenistic Paintings of Marisa, by David M. Jacobson, and Stone Vessels in the Levant, by Rachael Thyrza Sparks. For more information on these titles please visit www.maney.co.uk/series/pef

In line with the original intentions of the series, forthcoming volumes will include reports of excavations and surveys undertaken or supported by the Fund, and will also reflect the full range of the Fund's interests by including a wide variety of archaeological, historical, geographical and ethnographic studies.

The Series Editor, Jonathan N Tubb, Assistant Keeper (Ancient Levant) at the British Museum, anticipates an enthusiastic welcome for the revitalised series: “The PEF Annuals have always been very highly-regarded amongst researchers, containing detailed records of the Fund's excavations and fascinating discussions of the research which are invaluable to scholars and enthusiasts in this area of study. We are looking forward to further titles The Levant in Transition and Mapping Jordan through Two Millennia in 2008.”

Maney also publishes the Fund's journal, Palestine Exploration Quarterly. PEQ is part of the recently launched Maney Online Research E-journal (MOREArchaeology and Heritage Collection, which brings together ten leading archaeology journals in one package for access to online journal content for institutions, consultancies, practices and societies. About The Palestine Exploration Fund

The Palestine Exploration Fund (PEF) was founded in 1865 to promote research into the archaeology and history, manners, customs and culture, topography, geology and natural sciences of the Levant, the southern portion of which was conventionally named 'Palestine'. The PEF today is an active organisation which publishes a respected academic journal, the Palestine Exploration Quarterly, and a series of Annuals. In addition, the PEF presents public lectures on a wide variety of subjects, and funds several research projects covering a range of subjects in the Levant by way of small annual grants.
