Maney Publishing relocates to city centre offices after a long  history of business in Leeds

Maney Publishing has relocated to a new city centre location.

In the early 1900s Maney occupied premises in the city centre including Butts Court, Guildford Street (later redeveloped as The Headrow) and a five-storey warehouse in Russell Street, off Park Row.  In the 1960s rapid expansion saw Maney relocating to Hudson Road, Harehills, where the company remained for the next forty years. The move back to the city centre, to Joseph's Well, signifies the rising fortunes of one of the few quality publishing companies outside London.

Maney's Managing Director, Michael Gallico, says: 'This move demonstrates the growing status of Maney Publishing in the international arena. Our new city centre location reflects the rapidly expanding business as we take on many more titles and continue to develop our reputation for excellence in academic publishing.'

The offices at Hudson Road were located within the busy manufacturing industries of the area such as Montague Burton's tailors. The new location is similarly steeped in the history of the Leeds textile industry. In 1887 Joseph's Well was acquired by Sir John Barran MP, pioneer of the Leeds ready-made clothing industry. On leaving the Hudson Road premises, Michael says: 'Whilst it is definitely the end of an era, it also marks the beginning of an exciting new period of growth for Maney, in the heart of the city where it all began.'
