Materials Research Innovations publishes original research papers (guide length 3500 words but open to discussion), critical reviews, rapid communications and technical notes. Materials Research Innovations covers all areas of materials research including; synthesis, processing, and properties of nanoscale to microscale to bulk materials of ceramics, metals, semiconductors, or as ceramic-ceramic, metal-ceramic, metal-metal, metal-semiconductor, and inorganic-organic composite materials in order to impart special properties to bulk materials and coatings and for innovative applications in technology. Physical and chemical synthesis and processing of fine powders, single crystals and composites. The Editors (many of them involved in the formation of the materials research field) attempt to balance the more permanent themes of science and engineering with such areas of research activity. The Editors have singled out certain research areas in which Materials Research Innovations will attempt to become a journal of choice over the near future for scientists making genuine innovations: |
|
|
• The discovery or development of any really new |
• Phenomena in nano confining systems |
|
Because of its super peer review procedures, the journal is especially suited for the publication of results which are so new, so unexpected, that they are likely to be rejected by tradition-bound journals. Presumptive authors are invited to submit papers covering non-traditional topics at the frontier of science and technology and their management. |

Materials Research Innovations focuses on energy materials
This special themed issue is the first in what will be a regular series of issues of Materials Research Innovations focusing on energy materials. The ToC are avaialble to view on ingentaconnect and the Editorial by Publishing Manager, Mark Hull is free to read here.
The regular energy materials theme issues of MRI will in future comprise a commissioned component of the journal Energy Materials: Materials Science and Engineering for Energy Systems, which Maney publishes in conjunction with the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining. The journal is to be relaunched as a virtual journal in January 2012 and further details will become available at that time.

Fast track publication
Materials Research Innovations offers fast track publication. Articles are published online, in advance of being included in an issue, once authors have approved copyedited and typeset proofs. Fast track papers may be cited using the journal name and article DOI, to allow forward and backward citation tracking systems to associate the fast track citation with the final journal reference. For more information on fast track, see the online section of our website.
