Author Resources - Production Process
Each journal is handled by a dedicated Production Editor who will oversee the progress of all issues from delivery of copy, through copyediting, proofing and to print and online publication.
Editorial and authorial support are important aspects of the production process and Production Editors are more than happy to discuss related issues, answer questions as they arise and provide helpful resources for reference, such as our Editors’ Production Handbooks and Information for Authors documentation.
Production Workflows
The production process generally follows one of two workflows: either ‘batch’ or ‘flow’. Batch journals are supplied as complete issues and move through production as such to an agreed schedule. Flow journal papers are submitted on an individual basis (usually via the online submission system, Editorial Manager™), process through production individually and are brought together according to schedule when enough papers are ready to fill an issue.
Submission
In order to ensure that production runs as smoothly as possible it is important that Academic Editors adhere to the production process and supply requirements of their particular journal and that authors submit papers to correct journal style and specification. Details regarding submission and related requirements (such as figure supply information) can be found at Submitting a Paper. Notes for Contributors will differ for all journals so please ensure that these are carefully referred to since each journal will have slightly different procedures. These Notes state how and where to submit a paper; the type of contributions accepted; and important information on style and layout.
Please also see the following handy submission checklist which lists the essential submission requirements:
